The Mayor’s Office:

In 2016, the voters approved Measure O a charter amendment allow for the creation of two staff positions in the office of the Mayor. Stockton is the 13th largest city in California.


In February of 2017, Mayor Tubbs hired two highly qualified individuals to support his office. Both hires come with a collective 30 years plus of experience in

government and communications.

DANIEL LOPEZ, Senior Media Advisor for Mayor Michael Tubbs Daniel has a wealth of experience that he brings to City Hall. Prior to joining the office, Daniel served as the Chief of Staff to California State Senator Richard Pan. Previous to his work with Senator Pan, Daniel served as an aide to former Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson. Daniel's resume includes working at Facebook Headquarters in Menlo Park and serving as a press aide to former Lt. Governor John Garamendi. He also worked on Phil Angelides campaign for Governor and Obama's presidential campaign. Daniel graduated with a B.A. in Government and Journalism from California State University Sacramento, attended San Joaquin Delta College, and is a graduate of Franklin High School in Stockton. Daniel has been named as one of the 40 people under the age of 40 who excel in their professions and contribute to the community by the Sacramento Business Journal. Daniel is a Stockton native and is excited at the opportunity to return to his hometown and make a difference

MAX VARGAS, Senior Policy Advisor for Mayor Michael Tubbs Max brings a range of policy, legal, and community experience to City Hall. He was formerly the Public Affairs Manager for the San Joaquin Regional Transit District (RTD). Prior to working at RTD, Max was Senator Cathleen Galgiani’s Deputy District Director. His resume also includes the Office of Assemblymember Galgiani, Senator Lois Wolk, San Joaquin County WorkNet, and the National Council of La Raza. Max holds a B.A. in Political Science from the University of the Pacific and a J.D. from the McGeorge School of Law. He serves on the California Health Care Facility Citizens’ Advisory Committee, Pacific Alumni Association Board, and the Stockton Public Schools Foundation Board. Other Staff:

The Mayor’s office previously held one position, which is now filled by Cameron Burns. Mr. Burns serves as scheduler and assistant to the Mayor.


Additional support:


Mayor Tubbs also partnered with the non-profit Fuse Corp. They work to recruit executive level talent and convince them to serve in city government for one year. Cities like Sacramento, San Francisco and Los Angeles have all participated in this program. Stockton was award funding for not one, but two Fuse Corp fellows. Below is there info.  


ANN ROGAN FUSE Executive Fellow


Ann Rogan combines entrepreneurial and global partnership experience to help define business strategy and new services for early-stage companies. Her work in emerging markets has spanned sectors, including education, healthcare, clean energy, and digital identity. Ann has cofounded two companies, one in renewables, and one in 3-D printing. Most recently, she served on the Government of Estonia’s e-Residency Advisory Group to advance digital entrepreneurship. Prior to that, she led the team responsible for global strategy and community development at Singularity University in Silicon Valley. Ann earned a BA from McGill University in International Development and English Literature.


JASON WEINER FUSE Executive Fellow


Jason Weiner is an experienced organizational and program executive, consultant, and connector. Following John Gardner and other inspiring practitioners, he consults with nonprofit organizations to learn about their communities' real needs and respond in contextualized, capacity-building ways. He also draws on his experience in workforce development and postsecondary education to support collaborative, cross-sectoral workforce partnerships. From 2008 to 2011, Jason coordinated and administered the California EDGE Campaign, a non-partisan state workforce education and training policy coalition. Jason earned a Master's Degree in Public Administration from the University of Southern California and holds a B.A. in Political Science from Stanford University. He lives in Sacramento with his wife and three children, and has been a committed advocate for equity and justice in local government and education.
